「追い羽根（おいばね）」は、日本で古くから正月に親しまれてきた伝統遊び「羽根つき」に使われる、小さな球状の羽根です。黒豆に糸を巻き、数本の羽根を差して作られ、空気抵抗によってゆっくり落ちるため打ち返しやすいのが特徴です。古くは厄除けの意味もあり、羽子板と共に新年を祝う象徴として受け継がれてきました。これは、その追い羽根を水引細工で表現した作品です。

The oi-bane is a small feathered shuttlecock used in Hanetsuki, a traditional Japanese New Year’s game enjoyed since ancient times. Traditionally made by wrapping thread around a black bean and attaching several feathers, it falls slowly due to air resistance, making it easy to hit back and forth. It also carried wishes for warding off misfortune and was cherished alongside the decorated paddle, the hagoita, as a symbol of the New Year.
This piece is a mizuhiki-crafted interpretation of the traditional oi-bane.
